Senior Troupe of Lifelong Who We Are
The Senior Troupe of
Lifelong (www.tclifelong.org) has been
performing for more than eight years. We performs stories from our
lives, developed through improvisational theatre workshops held at
Lifelong.
The
theatre we perform is without sets, lights and props. The plays and
vignettes are developed through improvisational exercises that explore
themes important to seniors. From these exercises, we develop the
vignettes and plays that although rehearsed, still have an element of
improvisation. The players are the characters, the scenery and the
props. The troupe has performed for large and small audiences at senior
centers, nursing homes, and other nonprofit agencies.
The members of the
troupe have taken the Improvisational class offered by Sue Perlgut at
Lifelong. The director and members of the troupe range in age from the
60's to the 90's. We have developed a performance/workshop with
improvisational exercises that include the audience and a new form of
theatre that can accommodate the various ages and physical stamina of
the actors. This theatre, which we are calling “choral theatre” uses
themes that the actors pick and then develop into stories from their
lives that reflect this theme. Past themes have been about clothing,
travel, animals, winter, and women in our lives.
