Randi’s Room
New full color version coming soon!

A young girl wants a room of her own. Her single mother wants to buy a home.

Randi’s Room tells that story. It is a 16-page full color reader and coloring book for children about an African-American single mother and her two children. It is the story of their journey to owning their own home and, Randi’s first room of her own! This book, with its happy-ending, is about the universal theme of obtaining the American Dream and all that goes along with that. It is a primer for homeownership and adults will enjoy reading it too. It is appropriate to read to young children and for children ages seven and older to read themselves. Written by Sue Perlgut, with illustrations by nationally known artist and illustrator Annie Campbell.

"I just read "Randi" and loved it. A great book with a real message. What I really liked about it is the "situation/problem" in the story and the solution. I think it is one that children can really hook into and write from. It is universal in that I think all children can relate in one way or other. A wonderful book for seven and up when I look at the readability factor. In addition, even younger children would enjoy listening to it." Marilyn Rabinowtiz EdD

Excerpts from Randi’s Room
Page 3
Randi loved sitting in the kitchen and drawing pictures while her mother made dinner.  She was good at drawing trees, and cats and dogs with pretty pencils that were brown and gold and green.  She loved the sound of the pots and pans clanging on the stove as her mother cooked.
Randi did not love her bedroom.  She had to share it with her brother Daryl.  Daryl was two years younger than Randi and he was very messy.  His clothes, toy trucks, books, pennies and stuffed animals were thrown around the room.

Randi’s mother felt sorry that Randi and Daryl had to share a room and she had no room at all.  Randi and Daryl’s mom slept on the pullout couch in the living room.  She didn’t like the sound of Randi and Daryl arguing in their room.  She didn’t like not being able to paint the walls red if she wanted to.
